Abstract: Based on a new information theory, lossless data compression is destined to become a standard feature in most future communications networks. If data compression is indeed able to double or even triple data throughput without harmful side effects, then conventional data communication will soon become non-competitive. This paper shows how data compression operates and how software algorithms or integrated chipsets can be implemented in network design.
