Universal Data Compression and Encryption with Real
Time Video
A project to develop practical systems for data compression
Application Proposal: 2004
Abstract: A new Autosophy information theory offers a new approach to secure network communications by combining lossless data compression with virtually unbreakable “codebook” encryption. In conventional Shannon communications bandwidth is determined by data volume and hardware (such as image size and scanning rates in television) while data or image “content” is irrelevant. Random noise images require the same bandwidth as blank images. In the new Autosophy communications in contrast bandwidth is determined entirely by data or image “content” (such as motion and complexity in television images) while data volume and hardware become virtually irrelevant. The communication protocols are especially advantageous for packet switching networks such as ATM and the Internet. The protocols can be made entirely independent of hardware so as to achieve a universal data exchange format. This would allow today’s television screens to evolve to future giant screens without any change in communication protocols. Each camera and monitor can have a different number of rows, columns, resolution and scanning rates and yet communicate in a standard data format that will always remain backwards compatible. In addition, exchangeable hyperspace libraries can provide the option of either open or securely encrypted communications. Such hyperspace libraries can provide a virtually infinite-sized encryption key for unbreakable “codebook” encryption. Preliminary research shows that such encryption can be combined with data compression ratios of about 3:1 for text, 5:1 for still images and depending on the image content up to 3000:1 for live teleconferencing or television.
Anticipated Applications: Develop software for secure and compressed multimedia communications on the Internet. A universal standard for: text, still images, and video with high lossless data compression and virtually unbreakable encryption. In a second phase developing a hardware module to plug into the PC bus for real time secure teleconferencing via the Internet. Recording movies on CD-ROM or DVD discs without compromising image quality. The module would compress and encrypt any type of data including text, sound, speech, still images and real time video.
